Description
The Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House is a monument to innovative design, challenging construction, and global engagement. With materials stretching from Canada to Japan and everywhere in between, the European-designed performance hall boasts a dramatic, red glass enclosure and three-acre, aluminum-clad, steel solar canopy. The interior carries on this same level of grandeur through its spacious lobby, architecturally exposed structural steel staircase, and horseshoe-shaped audience chamber that reinterprets the traditional opera house. The space includes 110-foot-tall cast-in-place (CIP) shear walls for the stage house, 82-foot tall CIP concrete side walls for the chamber, and a breathtaking chandelier composed of 318 LED-illuminated acrylic rods.
