Description
The Proton Therapy Center at The University of Kansas Cancer Center (KU) is the first of its kind in the region and stands as the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive care center in the area. Linbeck completed the groundbreaking facility as a joint-venture with local builders McCownGordon. Through our own industry experience and McCownGordon’s local presence, we were able to deliver a product that realized KU’s important vision. The Proton Therapy Center is powered by twin Ion Beam Applications (IBA) Proteus One models and sits on bedrock with no auger cast piles. The facility was built with one new vault—with an option for an additional vault—associated clinical space, and a CT on Rail manufactured by Siemens. The McCownGordon-Linbeck team also completed renovations within the existing facility and completed an exterior facade that features both insulated metal panels and terracotta.
