Description
Originally built in 1947, Rice University’s Fondren Library is an intrinsic piece of the university’s 300-acre campus. When completing the library’s extensive renovation, Linbeck was careful to keep the building’s original design and honor the rich history embedded within its walls. In total, the team performed extensive renovations to the basement, as well as the first and sixth floors and half of the second floor. Linbeck created a new entrance on the west side of the building; added new air handling units, restrooms, fire sprinklers, a generator, and an elevator; and incorporated high-design elements to create an optimal study environment for students, faculty, and guests. The project was delivered in a series of 14 phases, allowing Fondren Library to remain open throughout the duration of construction.
