Description
Intended to fulfill the original vision of art patrons John and Dominique de Menil and artist Mark Rothko, the first phase of Rothko Chapel’s multi-phase master plan breathed new life into the internationally acclaimed destination. Linbeck worked closely with design experts and engineers to enhance the chapel’s interior lighting, add a new custom skylight, address internal and external structural issues, install acoustical plaster, repair and replace existing asphalt paver flooring, install new MEPF systems, and perform civil and landscaping work. The project also included the new construction of a single-story Welcome House to accommodate the chapel’s more than 100,000 annual visitors and an Energy House to serve as the chapel’s central plant.
