Description
The Dwoskin Proton Therapy Center at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (Sylvester) has significantly expanded and enhanced the University of Miami Health System’s ability to provide specialized radiation treatment in Miami. One of the major components of construction involved installing a top-of-the-line single vault proton therapy unit and software program, developed by Varian Medical Systems and used to treat and ultimately eradicate cancer. The new proton therapy center sits atop 120 auger cast pile, consists of a deep soil foundation mix, and includes mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire systems consistent with the Varian Medical System requirements. To round out the project, Linbeck also renovated 22,000 SF of an existing building on the Sylvester campus.
