Description
Linbeck successfully completed a replacement and renovation in the Norman Hackerman Building (NHB) at UT Austin. The original MRI within the basement-level suite, a Siemens 3T Skyra MRI, had reached the end of its usable life and needed to be replaced with a Siemens 3.0T Prisma MRI. Following case studies and meetings between Linbeck, UT Austin, and the design team, we determined using a 12’ x 12’ hole (drop zone) at the NHB’s south patio was optimal for performing the MRI swap. This highly complex work required removing portions of the patio floor for the hole/drop zone, performing extensive MEPF reconfigurations, and reinforcing affected areas of the NHB. After the MRI replacement, Linbeck closed the drop zone and structurally reinforced the NHB. Re-routing of existing MEPF systems were designed and installed for future equipment swaps, including a future 7T magnet.
