Description
MD Anderson’s Proton Therapy Center opened the door to a new era in radiation treatment for cancer patients from across the world. Upon its completion, the facility was the only center of its kind in the Southwest, and one of only three hospital-based proton therapy centers in America. The exterior of the facility is bright and airy, highlighted by its glass curtain wall, soft lines, and grand two-story entry. But what lies below the surface makes this building one of the finest medical facilities in the region. The facility houses a research room and four treatment rooms, three of which are equipped with rotating gantries that revolve around patients to deliver targeted radiation therapy; the fourth room houses fixed beam equipment. The Proton Therapy Center also houses several exam rooms and offices, control rooms for the gantries and X-ray rooms, an MRI suite, and a conference center.
